June 8, 2002 Pollock Pines
|
Our Saturday, June 8, ride will literally
"wind" us through the foothills and up into the Sierras.
The route will afford us some spectacular
views. We will have lunch in Pollock Pines at The Haven Restaurant.
The restaurant offers a well rounded lunchtime fare.
If Mother Nature cooperates, the Mormon
Emigrant Trail will open (as of today 05/29/02
the road is still closed due to snow) for
us.
If Mormon Emigrant Trail is open, the ride
route will be as follows:
Douglas Blvd. to Auburn Folsom Rd.
Through Auburn to Hwy 49.
Hwy 49 to Cool, Pilot Hill, Coloma,
and on to Placerville.
In Placerville catch Hwy 50 to the second
exit
for Pollock Pines. Back under Hwy
50, left on Pony Express Trail to 6396 and The Haven for lunch.
Fuel is available for those in need.
Following lunch, it will be Sly Park Road
to Mormon Emigrant Trail.
Mormon Emigrant Trail to Hwy 88.
Right on Hwy 88 toward Hams Station.
In Pine Grove it's on to Ridge Rd. to Hwy
49.
Hwy 49 to Sutter Creek and on to Hwy 16.
Left on Hwy 16 and right on Latrobe
Rd OR
other points west as we head for home.
IF Mormon Emigrant Trail IS NOT open we
will
take Sly Park Road to Pleasant Valley.
Mt. Akum Road to Fair Play Road.
Fair Play Road to Omo Ranch Road
Omo Ranch Road to Hwy 88.
The remainder of the route is the
same as above.
Either of these routes has more than its
share
of twists and turns. On a scale of 1
to 5, with 5 being most difficult, the ride is predominantly
in the 4-5 range. The total mileage from Brookfield's to
Latrobe Rd. and Hwy 50 is 165 miles.
Hope to see you there. |
